GAERF 2014 Student Design Competition
PACK-tastic!
Frequently Asked Questions

Q.
What is the purpose of this competition?
A.
Currently, the graphic communications industry’s largest growth sector for printed products is packaging. The purpose of this competition is to combine your critical thinking and creativity with cutting edge technology to design a unique and striking package. The design should incorporate original artwork, logo, and/or images created by the student, resulting in unique branding for a generic product. It must be sturdy, functional and attract the consumer’s interest.

Q.
What is a dieline?
A.
A dieline is the template for a package. It’s a flattened outline of the cutlines and folds. You cannot create a product package design without one.
Example: If you took apart a chewing gum box and flattened it out, essentially you’d be looking at the dieline. The edges of the box are the cutlines and all the seams and creases are the folds and overlaps.
