GAERF 2012 STUDENT DESIGN COMPETITION

THE CHALLENGE...create a marketing piece designed to promote YOU―the student―as the ideal candidate for the career of your choice in the Graphic Communications industry.

Student Design Competition Templates

To be eligible for the Design Competition, students must select ONE marketing piece from among these three choices:

  • Website Banner
  • Postcard
  • Display Ad

All entries MUST CONFORM to the specifications provided in the the templates provided below.


Postcard Template

General Instructions

  1. Complete your design following the dimensions and guides outlined in the template.
  2. Upon design completion, save and export your document as a .pdf.
  3. Create one compressed .zip or .rar file that includes the pdf of your final design and all files necessary to recreate your design. This would include all fonts, graphics images and the original design file.
  4. Upload or mail the compressed file as your contest entry.

InDesign Instructions

  1. Complete your design following the dimensions and guides outlined in the template.
  2. Upon design completion, save and export your document as a .pdf. In the export dialogue settings, make sure Adobe PDF Preset is set to “High Quality Print” and that “Use Document Bleed Settings” is checked.
  3. Go to File>>Package and package your document. This will create a folder that includes all files and fonts used in the document.
  4. Create one compressed .zip or .rar file that includes the pdf and packaged InDesign files folder.
  5. Upload or mail the compressed file as your contest entry.

Print Ad. Template

General Instructions

  1. Complete your design following the dimensions and guides outlined in the template.

General Instructions

  1. Create and design a document that complies with the specifications documented in the downloadable template.
  2. Save your design as a .jpg, gif or png file.
  3. If using the optional floating box, add your banner graphic and any additional text or graphic files to a compressed .zip or .rar file.
  4. Upload or mail your compressed file as your completed entry.

Photoshop Instructions

  1. Complete your design on a layer or layers within the “Your Design” layer group found in the .psd template file.
  2. Save a .psd and a web-optimized .jpg, gif or png file of your finished design.
  3. Create a compressed .zip or .rar file that includes your .psd and web-optimized file and all font files used in your design.
  4. Upload or mail your compressed file as your completed entry.
